AA and Guild offer award for campaigning journalism

Campaigning automotive journalists have just one day left to compete for a £500 prize and trophy offered by the AA in the annual Guild of Motoring Writers Awards.

The 2022 AA Campaigning for Motoring Award merges the AA’s previous Campaigning Journalism and Safety awards. The scope of this category is wide and entries should focus on how their writing advances campaigns that impact motorists. From road safety to electric vehicles, or roads maintenance to environmental issues, the judges want to see examples of how entrants have built and delivered their case to improve the lives of all road users.

The judges will be looking for a piece of writing that provokes, challenges or encourages real change among authorities, car makers and road-users in general. Judges are also looking for writing that shows depth of passion and commitment to improve the roads for all regardless of whether they are inside or outside a vehicle.

Louise Cole won the award in 2021 for her writing in Roadway magazine, in which she tackled the issue of fleet operators’ strategies for eliminating driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Up to three pieces of work will be accepted per entrant, and must be submitted by midnight on Friday 30th September. The best of these will be selected to create a shortlist of finalists which will be announced in mid-November, with the awards presented at a gala dinner at the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall, on 1st December.

The entry form, information about the awards, and the rules for entry can be found at https://www.gomw.co.uk/awards

Candidates are advised to read the online instructions carefully before entering. If you have any questions about the entry procedure or want to apply for Guild membership contact Honorary Secretary, Richard Netherwood email: [email protected]
