A fantastic book about an interesting and entertaining man who lived an exciting life with a great deal of charm, style and sheer bravery. It’s wonderfully written – Jack Barlow lets you glimpse inside an exotic world of larger than life characters who weren’t about to let society’s norms stop them from living life to the full. This is the story of a man whose life, and especially his mental health, were defined by sporting tragedy, but despite the sad ending, it is hugely lively and amusing. Fans of 1950s motor racing will find much to enjoy but even people with no interest in the sport at all will find a great deal to relish in this wonderful book.

Yes but was the GT40 any better than the Lola Mk6 or just an expensive display of US Ford arrogance?
