Designer Daniel W. Fletcher reveals his driving forces in inspiring fashion career for Jaguar & Attitude Content Series

British fashion designer, Daniel W. Fletcher (32) shared his journey as a designer with Attitude magazine and Jaguar, explaining how he has found a way to finally being comfortable with who he is.

Not long after finishing his degree at the prestigious Central Saint Martins in London, US store ‘Opening Ceremony’ bought Daniel’s first handmade collection. Talking of his stratospheric rise to fame, he recalls, “And then a man called Harry Styles came along and he bought all of the shirts from the collection. That was really the start of it, I had a label then without even really realising!”.

Today, Daniel Fletcher is European Semi-Finalist of the International Woolmark Prize (2018) and the Future British Award winner. He was also named as one of Drapers ‘30 Under 30’ and nominated for the prestigious LVMH prize in 2017.

Daniel recently presented his latest collection, ‘Vale, Pete’ at London Fashion Week. The collection acknowledged the influences inspired by his father, Pete, who passed away at the end of last year.

Daniel admits that it took him a long time to find his originality and become a “better designer,” but he clearly remembers the moment he realised: “This is what I want to do and this is who I am”.

Being comfortable with yourself and not worrying about what anyone else thinks is really the driving force of what I do,” remarks Fletcher in a candid revelation.

Daniel went on to talk about his personal and professional journey during filming in Palm Springs, California, with other queer creatives who have also followed the path of radical acceptance. He expressed his happiness that younger people today have much more representation in the media, making it easier to come out and be comfortable in themselves.

I didn’t do textiles when I was at school because no other boys were doing it and I was embarrassed by that, but now I feel totally comfortable with who I am, and I’m surrounded by so many people from the LGBTQ community who really inspire me and I feel lucky to be part of it.
